Anna Hop / Ludwig Minkus
Don Quijote
The premiere
The adventure of a knight-errant Don Quijote and his loyal squire Sancho Panza in a humorous ballet inspired by the legendary novel by Miguel de Cervantes.
The funny perplexities of the protagonists travelling across southern lands in the dreamy vision to save the world become an impulse to present the virtuosity of classical dance enriched with Spanish expression and temperament.
Don Quijote is one of the most famous classical ballets; witty, energetic and filled with Spanish energy. The expressive music, variety of scenes, including pantomimes and fiery dances, plenty of interesting characters and a range of emotions guarantee superb fun both for adult and younger viewers.
The first choreographic version of Don Quijote to the melodic music of Minkus was created by Marius Petipa, the forefather of the XIXth century Russian ballet, the choreographer of such music masterpieces of Piotr Tchaikovsky as Swan Lake and The Sleeping Beauty.
